As a child, Christmas was the most magical time of the year.
To me the whole world seemed
to be buzzing with a magical atmosphere that can perhaps only
be dreamt of by a child.

Christmas Eve was probably the most exciting night of the year,
the night that Santa Clause comes.
Every year my brother, sisters and I would watch a Christmas movie,
then write a letter to Santa, telling him about all the things we
wanted. Every year we left a glass of milk and some cookies
for Santa and some carrots for his reindeer. Our parents would tell
us repeatedly to go to sleep but the excitement of what would be waiting
for us in the morning was too much, plus we hoped that we could catch a
glimpse of Santa Clause sneaking through the house.

The new day awoken and we weren’t far behind, yelling with excitement
“Santa has been!”As a family we gathered together to open our presents,
so our parents could see the joy and happiness on our faces.

The next best thing to opening your presents on Christmas day is eating!
Despite the heat we usually had a baked dinner with many cold side dishes,
for desert we ate fruit, such as watermelons and plum pudding with ice-cream
and custard. The special drink for the season was PUNCH, unlike in America
where they drink hot eggnog, in Australia we drink a cold drink that is made
by adding soft drink and fruit juice together and for you older kids,
wine can also be added.

In all my “21” years I have never seen Santa Clause on Christmas Eve
but I did see him one year at Bagara beach, SURFING!
